Subject : Macro-Micro Theory

Sir,

This is in continuation to my communications with you on various issues, I am further trying to analyse the society and the state relations.

To my understanding, the human society is divided into two major attributes i.e. reason and emotions. These two attributes could be analysed in the frame-work of the Macro-Micro Theory. The Macro signifies reason and the Micro signifies emotions. Reason is logic and universal, whereas emotions are creative and heterogeneous. The control of reason over emotions signifies wisdom in human approach, whereas the influence of emotions over reasons signifies generosity in human behaviour. Reason without emotions is raw and crude, whereas emotions without reason are shattered and barbaric.

The creation of world i.e. Man and Woman can be analysed in the similar theory. The Man and the Woman are not limited to the biological factor i.e. sex; or social factor i.e. gender; and/or behavioral factor i.e. masculine-feminine. Man and Woman are beyond these conventional approaches. The attributes of these two species of Man and Woman can be analysed under the framework of ‘Macro-Micro’ i.e. Man represents reasons and Woman represents emotions. The unification of these attributes makes a complete human being.

Another major aspect of the society is political, i.e. Authority and the Community. Authority is macro whereas, community is micro. The heterogeneity of Community emotions are governed by the universal reason of the Authority. The unification of the Community and the Authority creates a Nation. Community without the Authority is shattered and barbaric. Authority without the Community has no existence.

The third aspect of the society is economical. The modes of production whether feudalism or capitalism, the lord or bourgeois is the Macro and the serfs or the proletariat are the Micro. The heterogeneity of the micro abilities is being appropriated by the macro executers towards the sustainability of the facilitation of the materialistic needs of the society.

Now the question lies that how the Macro community is being created. The macro is neither hereditary nor it is created by the revolution. Macro community is a gradual growth and it is created by a vision that transforms the society. The transformation from the feudalistic society to the industrial society was due to the change in the macro vision of the micro community that influenced the whole society. Similarly the era of the globalization is also the indication of the change in the vision at macro level that has influenced the micro community. The sustainability of the Macro vision depends on the impact on the micro venerability. Disintegration of USSR was due to micro invasion over macro rule.

The social-political aspect of the Macro-Micro theory can be analysed once we evaluate the Man-Woman relations. The conventional discourse on the patriarchy system of the society is incomplete and inadequate. I visualise the society as a division of attributes. Man is a provider and protector whereas Woman is nurturer. The sharing of responsibilities is according to the attributes of the two genders. Since Man is a provider and the protector hence they are the ruler, and when Woman is nurturing the society she becomes community. The Community is always been governed by the Ruler. The appropriate nurturing of the Community is only possible when there is provision and protection, i.e. governance. Whereas, the significance of governance, i.e. peace and prosperity exists when there is a community that is rightfully nurtured to absorb the prosperity and peace.

The Social Contract Theory of state and community relation can be further analysed under the same concept. Marriage is a social contract between man and woman. This social contract is according to the customs and tradition of various communities. The ritual is followed to legitimize the relations between the two individuals who are responsible for the respected duties. This is a micro act. Similarly, the ritual that is followed to legitimize the ruler to govern is community/region is a macro act.

The conceptual understanding of Dowry is not limited to the traditional approach of inheritance i.e. streedhan. Dowry is an essential aspect of marriage, i.e., a way of tribute to the ruler for being acceptance to govern the community. Hence, the woman, when is a daughter being recognized by the identity of father and later after marriage recognized by the identity of her husband. The tribute is given to the husband is a ritual for an acceptance of the community by the ruler. The ruler is further responsible for the provision and protection for the community for the whole tenure of the marriage/contract. This is the reason, even after the non-discrimination in the Inheritance Law and the Dowry Prohibition Act, could not curtail the dowry deaths. Similarly, the tax that is being given to the ruler is a dowry at a macro level.

While analyzing the said theory, I could also find the reason for the venerability of multiple-relations for the man while restricted relation for the woman, as a mute acceptability of the society. Historically, a ruler could have multiple regimes, while a regime could not have a multiple ruler. Though in the post-War period the state sovereignty is protected by the international law i.e. one ruler – one regime.

The social issues like female infanticide, sati and prostitution can be further explained under the said regime. Female infanticide is an issue that attracts attention at a micro level. No society approves female infanticide. It is an individual choice, not the social or state directions. This choice is basically the inadequacies to sustain the community responsibility of provision and protection and inability to pay tributes for further social contract.
Similarly, the sati was done to a live woman on the funeral of her husband’s death. It is an indication of eliminating a regime with the death of the ruler. This is a social norm to avoid a regime without a ruler to protect the regime from the outsource invaders. Remarriage of widow was an expression towards the sustainability of the regime even after the death of the ruler.
The prostitution is a regime that is nomad and barbaric, i.e. a regime without ruler or ruler without a regime. Such regime is prone to invasion and invaders to micro level. This nomad regime creates a separate society and hence remains a constant threat (terrorism) to the micro regime. The creation of this nomad regime is due to the inadequacies and the lapses of micro-ruler. Hence, the terrorism is a nomadic attack on a state regime is a macro act. (My future papers will define terrorism to understand the said concept at a broader level. To me terrorism is not a global issue, but it is a regional and domestic issue)
Gender disparity is a latest crisis at a micro-level. The breaking of marriages is an indication of gender disparity in the present time. The term liberation, equality and rights are misinterpreted that is leading to a social unrest. Liberation does not signify liberation from one’s responsibilities and duties. Equality does not indicate an option for invading other’s profile. Rights are not always claimed, rather it is earned. Liberation means to me, is an ability to execute one’s responsibilities to best of one’s creativity. Equality means to me equal recognition to the role in the human society. If a society is more emphasized on duties, then rights will be available to all without fighting for it.
The destitution of women historically as a gender could be uplifted only when her role is being recognized. Not all the women are capable of economically sustainability, but they are able to execute their responsibility well towards nurturing the society at micro level. Simultaneously, equipping the Man towards the provision and protection will bring balance in the society. State recognition of women’s role is essential towards the preventing of breaking of marriages. A vast human resource is going waste due to non-recognition of the role of the women as the nurturer of the society. This can be done under the guaranteed social security against their role i.e. upbringing their respective children.

The gender disparity is clearly visible at a macro level. Since the Legislation is a representation of the community it indicates Woman and hence responsible for the nurturing of the community. Judiciary is a representation of law indicates Man and hence responsible for the provision and protection of the community. The growing gap between the legislation and judiciary at the present time is also indication of the gender disparity at a macro level. The way breaking of marriages due to lack of love, mutual respect and interdependency at micro level leading to the suffering of the children that is further responsible for the shattered society. Similarly, the lack of coordination, trust and interdependencies between judiciary and legislation is resulting to the social unrest at a whole. Broken marriage will strengthen nomadic regime, hence this will erode the state sovereignty. The successful marriage at a macro level would succeed marriages at micro level.

A prolonged demand on the Women’s Reservation Bill in the legislation is not towards empowering women who are historically disadvantaged group rather it is a demand of exercising the micro role at macro level i.e. nurturing the society in the legislative manner. Women’s participation in the macro regime i.e. legislation will bring romance in the macro marriage i.e. legislation and judiciary and the both macro Man and macro Woman will nurture the nation to best of their creativity and reason.

The theory of Macro-Micro is broader concept which will help in resolving many issues whether it is domestic, national or international crisis. The theories like historical materialism, alienation and class struggle have divided the world, whereas the theory of Macro-Micro will unite the world society. The existence of the stateless society is beyond any possibility till the time there is an existence of Man and Woman in the nature’s creation.

With best regards,

Yours faithfully,

(SHARMILA BOSE)
